With each
passing day, YouTube keeps updating its features and the recent update that
enables netizens to reply to YouTube comments with Shorts has been taking the
platform by storm. This new addition not only enables users to reply to
comments in an innovative and creative way but also gives creators new
opportunities to create content while building a community.
Responding to YouTube Comments with Shorts
Instead of
replying to a comment with another text comment, creators can now respond to
them with a short video and they can highlight viewer comments in the newly
created shorts in a sticker. This new feature, announced by YouTube in
September 2022, enables creators to make videos by taking resources from a
variety of ideas from their community.
The process is
remarkably easy. All one has to do is:

Open one of the
videos on their YouTube channel in the YouTube app. They can be accessed by
going to the Library tab and selecting ‘Your Videos’.

Choose a video
that has comments and tap on it.

Tap the comment
icon to review the comments on the video and choose the one that they find
suitable for making a video. A reply pop-up automatically appears on the
screen.

Tap the Shorts
icon to the right of the text composer. YouTube will automatically initiate the
workflow for creating the Shorts.
The Shorts
feature of YouTube allows for editing and customizations to be made in
accordance with the choice of the creators from an array of options including
time limits, shooting clips on spot, or adding pre-existing clips to adjust the
speed, among others.
Using the YouTube Shorts Editing Tool
Once one
creates a short video as a response to a comment, all the standard editing
tools of Shorts become available at their disposal.
Editing the text:
Adding text is
a great way to add context to the video and can be used by tapping the ‘Text’
button. Shorts allows a variety of font styles and colors that can be used to
enhance the text. Tap the “A” button to add or remove a background from the
text. Once done editing, tapping on ‘Done’ will conclude the segment. To add
another line, one simply has to repeat the process all over. The text can be
placed on the required position of the screen by the drag-and-drop method, and
its size can also be adjusted accordingly.
Adding Filters:
Tap the Filters
option to explore the various preset Shorts filters and choose the one that
best suits the video.
Adding Narration:
To enhance the
video with more audio context, YouTube’s narration feature can be put to use.
One can tap to record a voiceover at any point in the video to make it more
engaging for viewers.
Once done with
the editing, tap the Next button in the upper-right corner of the screen and
add a short title. Confirm the visibility and audience settings and tap ‘Upload
Short’. It will now be published on the creator's Channel.
